VEGAS SHOOTOUT: Hot sun teaser in more ways than one...

I just got back from a week in Las Vegas (my first time!!!) for WPPI (Wedding & Portraits Photographers International). I am so thankful to be back in Kansas City...home...with my husband...and cat...and a heart full of inspiration and a memory bank full of good times with new and old friends.
As I play catchup with my to-do list, I thought I'd update my blog with some teaser pics from a photo shoot hosted in the desert by Victor Sizemore and styled by Summer of Grey Likes Weddings. It was in the desert...and we had wonderful, wonderful models!!!
Check out 3 from the first part of the shoot with the beautiful Anna.

G-licious Dishes: Chicken Tarragon Pesto Pasta

Since I just recently posted another recipe with tarragon, thought I'd do another to show that it can be used on beef AND chicken very nicely. And get totally different tastes!! This got a thumbs up from my husband and me!! And there was a ton left over!

Chicken Tarragon Pesto Pasta
Ingredients
1/2 box of cooked farfalle noodles
2 cooked chicken breasts (seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic)

For the tarragon pesto
1 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
1/2 cup pan-toasted pine nuts
1 tbsp. dried tarragon or large bunch of tarragon leaves, chopped
juice of one lemon
1 tbsp. minced garlic
1/2 cup olive oil

Directions
1. To make the tarragon pesto, puree grated Parmesan, toasted pine nuts, tarragon, lemon juice, garlic, and olive oil until smooth with a hand-held stick blender or in a food processor.
2. Put the cooked pasta, pesto, chicken,in a serving bowl, season with salt and black pepper, and toss well, coating the pasta and chicken evenly with the pesto. Serve immediately.

Lenexa/Kansas City maternity session with Amanda & Jeremy

I had the pleasure of meeting Amanda & Jeremy last weekend for a maternity session. They had recently moved from sunny San Diego, so how fitting that the weather for their shoot was downright NOT sunny. Snowing, in fact! But their personalities were sunshiney enough that the cold, brutal weather did not matter. Plus, their house was POIFECT for a shoot.
Starting with the amazingly chic chaise lounge...and the photographer's-dream-windows...oh, and of course...Amanda = stunning. (and must apologize, I accidentally exported the pics for the blog with the watermark in the wrong corner...but didn't realize till it was all posted...sorry!!)

Favorite on the left...They are so sweet together. And quite possibly, Jeremy enjoyed this pose soooo much...because I do believe he nearly fell asleep. haha

they braved the wind and the snow...sort of...from the shelter of their roofed deck. ;)

Kansas City newborn & family photography session: Baby Elliot & Ashlyn

This session was a special one for me... it is the first newborn BOY that I've photographed. I can't believe it myself that it took this long. But wow....I couldn't have asked for a better lil' guy to start out with.

HIs mom contacted me a few months ago and was adamant about getting one photo in particular at the request of her 4-yr-old daughter, Ashlyn. It was the teacup shot.

I had no prob getting that prop out when they came all the way from Columbia for the photo shoot at my home here in Kansas City. So we'll start with that one... to introduce Elliot--with a head full of glorious hair at the age of 12 days old! When born, he weighed in at 20.5 inches, 7lbs 5oz. :)

If he's anything like his sister, he will be ornery, precocious and darling to work with. :) This is Ashlyn, who was quite the helper for the shoot.

Dont' be fooled by those angelic smiles. She can be a little squirt. She can even sing AND dance to rap songs!!!

Ok, so back to Elliot for awhile. With a hint of a smile....

I hunted down this baby bonnet because E's room is decorated in airplanes.

And we think the scale might be off a bit...or maybe the blanket he's lying on is heavy. ;)

I can't resist baby rolls.... :)
DarbiGPhotograph-KansasCity family newborn photographer-114
Two of my faves...just because he looks so tuckered out...and peaceful.

Again, we focus on Ashlyn, who by the way, kept reapplying her "lip gloss" throughout the shoot. ANDDDDD...she took the suggestion of a photographer (who shall remain nameless) and applied some of the lovely glittery lip goo to her daddy. He LOVED IT.

I can totally tell E & A are related...See the resemblance??? :)

Such a big sister!! I kept asking if I could trade things for her baby brother. I offered a blanket. She said NO. And then she informed me I don't need Elliot because I have a husband and Kramer. hahaha

Be still my heart...siblings!!!!

A fave...mostly because Patrick did this without being asked. In fact, he wasn't supposed to even be in the frame. haha
